DON'T LOSE

Your Focus

Cognitive aspects during a match can impact the player as well as the physical aspects. This mental fatigue alters cognitive function and contributes to post exercise fatigue.

Hydration plays an important role in cognitive function, with even slight dehydration shown to make everyday tasks more difficult.

Studies have found that even mild dehydration can impair concentration and increase irritability, leading to poorer performance.

Importantly, when the same participants were fully hydrated, performance was improved as hydration supports focus, concentration and brain health. The brain is cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Better hydration provides more cushioning and protection for the brain. Dehydration has been shown to increase brain activity linked to pain, whereas hydration calms that activity leading to reduced pain.

Using data across the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, the graph shows the correlation between game progress and goals conceded, demonstrating how extended game play reduces levels of concentration, which may affect the player’s decision making.

Although we must replenish our stores of water, we must also replenish minerals and trace elements

This is because without the correct minerals and trace elements the brain cannot hold on to the water consumed.

Water therefore can’t function optimally and the risk of dehydration increases.

Dehydration causes:

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Lowered Immunity
  • Lack of focus
  • Impaired stress control
  • Impaired decision making
  • Reduced stress control

Many mistakes and injuries occur late in play. Glucose is the brain’s main primary energy source. Low glucose levels lead to poorer concentration, slowed reaction times, reduction in judgement and reduced depth and field of vision, all of which contribute to mistakes and injury.

Insufficient glucose delivery from upset electrolyte balances and dehydration reduces the efficiency of oxygen uptake needed for metabolism. The electrolytes in Totum Sport regulate glucose and oxygen delivery, maximising glucose supply to the brain and nerves. This supports the ability to judge distance and peripheral vision. Teams and athletes that can stay focused right until the end know that this is the difference between winning and losing. Totum Sport provides all 78 electrolytes in a bioavailable form and in the correct proportions so that each one can work optimally in the body, ensuring you finish stronger.
